What Makes Sense Makes Science

Every ingredient in our products has a purpose, nothing is accidental. We use active ingredients to hydrate and nourish the skin and its microbes, such as lipids, oils, antioxidants, sugars, peptides, amino acids, and minerals. Additionally, functional ingredients stabilize emulsions and protect against spoilage, exemplified by Vitamin E (tocopherol) which serves both as an active and functional ingredient, providing skin benefits and product stability.

Science of Nature

Before we dive in, a few concepts are worth explaining further. To establish the optimal balance of the skin’s biochemistry (and pH) and the microorganisms living at its surface, the understanding of the NMF and the microbiome are key.

  1. To support the biochemistry of the skin, the NMF (natural moisturizing factor) will be introduced.
  2. To enrich the skin’s microbes, the science behind the microbiome comes into play.

NMF - Natural Moisturizing Factor

The NMF (Natural Moisturizing Factor) is vital for the skin's protective barrier, supporting hydration, balance, desquamation, softness, and elasticity. A perturbed NMF can lead to conditions like atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, ichthyosis vulgaris, and dry skin. Comprising 20 to 30% of the outer skin layer, NMF components are mainly amino acids and inorganic salts, serving as effective humectants that attract and bind water, supporting enzymatic processes and the skin's structure, elasticity, and osmotic balance.
