Planet vs Plastic

Planet vs Plastic

We believe everything is connected and so is our health and that of our planet.

And we believe you are connected too.

That’s why in everything we do, we aim at limiting our carbon footprint.  And by carbon we mean plastics and petroleum-based products.  ♳♴♵♶♷♸♹🛢️

Why plastics specifically?

🛢️ 400 million metric tons of plastic produced each year
🛢️ with only 9% recycled and as much as 22% mismanaged
🛢️ poor recycling stats everywhere; US at 4%, Canada at 6%, China at 11%, and EU at 14%
🛢️ if not mismanaged, ends up incinerated or in landfills
🛢️ all of which contributes to air, land, river, or ocean pollution
🛢️ all of which contributes to decline in planet and ultimately animal and human health.

With great plastic power comes great responsibility.

For VGAM, for Dr Mimi and for You 🦠🌲🌎🌱 this means 400 million reasons to :

♳ limit to minimum any use of plastic.  In all our packaging, only our caps used that material.  We are still working hard at finding an alternative.
♴ educate on ingredient safety and specifically the use of NONO ingredients such as endocrine disruptors.  Bisphenol A or BPA found in some plastic mimics estrogen and disrupts hormonal cycles and increases risks of some cancers.
♵ do not include any of the NONO ingredients in our formulations.
♶ support cancer research and particularly breast cancer.  Estrogen-dependent breast cancer is highly connected with plastic pollution.
♷ advocate and recycle every day. Not just plastic, everything we can. Our external packaging, including labels, are certified compostable. Yes, you can also recycle these.
♸ favor glass and aluminum. Aluminum is the only material that can be recycled indefinitely.
♹ participate in podcast such as the Resilience Report

All that single use plastics that we have overused in the past decades.

50 years ago, it was still less than 50M metric tons. The rise to 400M yearly has increased so much more than the population growth. Compare the curves here.

When you know some plastics can take more than 500 years to degrade, you do something. It can be as simple as carrying a water bottle or a shopping bag - for those that still have access to single use plastic bags at their favorite shop. More ideas on the site of the UN environment program.

With us, you do too, and we thank you; for supporting and following what we do. Every action counts. Healthy Planet, Healthy Skin !
